Transforming Houston, One House at a Time.

Houston Missional Real Estate Fund (HMREF) is a privately financed initiative created to empower nonprofits and missionally-minded for-profits serving vulnerable populations. We believe housing stability is foundational to human flourishing—and that real estate can be a tool for lasting Kingdom impact.

Rather than asking ministries to take on the risks and responsibilities of ownership, HMREF steps in as a long-term, mission-aligned landlord.

Our Mission

  • Invest in residential real estate to provide safe, affordable housing for the least of these in our city

  • Serve as Kingdom-minded landlords for sustainable organizations whose clients need affordable housing

  • Attract Kingdom-minded investors who prioritize impact over maximizing returns

Our Properties

HMREF currently owns five residential properties across a range of Houston neighborhoods, each thoughtfully selected to support the work of our Mission Partners. These homes serve multiple nonprofits and a variety of vulnerable populations, providing safe, stable housing where it is most needed.

In addition to our existing portfolio, HMREF maintains a near-term pipeline of mission-aligned properties. Each opportunity is carefully vetted for location, condition, and partner fit—so we are prepared to move efficiently as capital becomes available and housing needs arise.
